Hello! My name is Mrs. Barz and I am the counselor here at Emperor! I am so grateful to be a part of a community of learners and I love serving the students and families of TCUSD!

I graduated with my BA from Cal State LA. I have a Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis/School Counseling and a PPS credential and CWA-Child Welfare and Attendance. I am passionate about giving students the tools and strategies they need to express and understand their feelings so they learn how to be both kind and a leader. I am eager to support students, their families, and staff at Emperor Elementary.

WHAT DO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNSELORS DO?

•  Promote and support the social/emotional well being of all students. This is done three different ways: 
  • Individual Counseling - Topics may include emotional regulation, behavior modification, grief, coping skills, social skills, changing families, problem solving, decision making, etc.
  •  Small Group Counseling -  Topics may include social skills, emotion regulation, fairness, conflict resolution, mediation, friendship, self-esteem, anger management, etc.
  • Classroom Lessons (Social Emotional Lessons “SEL”)
    • Facilitate classroom lessons TK-6th grade related to social/emotional skills and based on the needs of students
    • Provide immediate short, or long term counseling services for students individually or in a group
    • Engage all students in group activities such as Peace Squad
    • Work collaboratively with all teachers and staff
    • Provide information and referrals for community resources to families

The School Psychologist provides a broad range of psychological services essential to the understanding of the emotional, physical and psychological needs of students. This includes, but not limited to, the application of psychological knowledge to the development of intellectual, emotional, and behavioral competency of pupils through consultation, assessment, counseling, and research. The School Psychologist coordinates and provides a program of psychological services to students in general education and special education programs. Provides consultation across the district related to evaluating students whose primary language is not English. The School Psychologist works closely with all staff, inclusive of general education and special education staff, in a variety of areas of behavioral services. They complete individual student assessments, planning and evaluating programs; coordinating behavioral services, coordinating and evaluating curricular resources and strategies, evaluating effectiveness of programs for individuals with exceptional needs and participating in staff and program development related to the special methods and approaches of providing special education services. The school psychologist provides parents with tools and strategies on how to best support their child.
